Swiss Economics was commissioned by Zukunft.li to create a study on the topic of "Public Service and State-owned Enterprises," which will serve as the basis for a publication by Zukunft.li and address the following research questions:
- Is there still a need for public service today?
- What is meant by a modern concept of public service, and which offers and services are included?
- Generally, and specifically for Liechtenstein: What aspects are important – efficiency, quality, low costs, etc.?
- Do (very) small economies like Liechtenstein differ significantly from larger countries in terms of providing public service? Are there possibly macroeconomic reasons why public service in Liechtenstein should be provided by state-owned enterprises?
- What options are available for a state to guarantee public service?
- How should public service be guaranteed or provided in Liechtenstein in the future?
- If state-owned enterprises continue to exist: How should they be governed from a governance perspective?
